Low starting salary among most graduates have been attributed to their lack of skills.
So what are the skills the graduates must have before they can be hired?
Having a degree does not automatically means you would land any job on the market.
Even if you may be the lucky ones who got hired, your starting salary would probably be lower than what you have asked for.
According to Tenaga Nasional Berhad Human Resources Vice President, Datuk Muhammad Razif Abdul Rahman, the reason for this is the lacks of skills among the graduates.
In most cases, their communication and English language skills are the main aspects the graduates are not earning more.
He added one way employers identify graduates who stand out is by putting them in a group during their interview sessions.
"The ability to communicate, interact and at the same time to work in a team to analyze cases and put across their views as well as who can become a leader," said Datuk Muhammad Razif.
Graduates also assumed that their involvement in clubs and association in the university is not important.
However, motivational expert, Captain Arivananthan Muniandy said this is not true as an interviewer often perceives the character of a person through their social activities during their education.
"And when they come into the room, the way they come and approach the person, also we will know. This person got high energy or not. No need to worry about how to increase my confident level, read books. No need to do that. His passion himself will drive him to make sure he got that energy. Now how to get passion? You need to have a purpose. You don't have a purpose how you gonna have a passion?," asked Kapten Arivananthan.
Knowledge also plays a key role for graduates in interview sessions as it reveal their self-esteem and how they think.
