Green Ranger Malaysia, GRM is an initiative by the Pulau Banding Foundation and Yayasan Emkay to educate the younger generation on the importance of caring for Mother Earth.

The movement takes a more enjoyable approach through experiential learning.

GRM was launched recently at Belum Rainforest Resort, Gerik, Perak and attended by officials from the Education Ministry, Scouts Malaysia and more than 100 students and teachers.

Its founder Tan Sri Datuk Mustapha Kamal said the rainforest holds many solutions to the climate and ecological problems around the world.

Giving the young generation exposure into the rainforest, with its 3,00 species of flaura and fauna, would encourage them to be reponsibe stewards of our natural resources and environment.

Meanwhile, Pulau Banding Foundation's CEO Dr Daniel Baskaran said there are many things yet to be discovered in the biological diversity and new active ingredients that could be important in the pharmaceutical industry.

As such, GRM aims to also promote sustainable development of the rainforest ecosystems.

What is evident, this experential learning is more impactful than being limited in the classroom.

Not only is the programme educational and engaging but it also incorporates teamwork, leadership and social skills.

To date, GRM has conducted some 11 camps at the Belum Rainforest Resort.

In the long run, GRM hopes to complement the school's uniform clubs co-curicular activities such as scouts, girl guides and the red cresent society.
