• LYNAS CONTROVERSY: CABINET AGREES TO FORM PSC ON LYNAS
17 Mar 2012, 01:23am BY Abdul Ghoni Ahmad

The Cabinet has decided to form a Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) to discuss the controversial Lynas rare earth plant project.

MCA President, Datuk Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek said, the committee will look into the specific details of the issues pertaining to the plant in Gebeng, Kuantan.

"The Cabinet has decided to form the PSC. Representatives from the opposition and government will join the committee. I hope (they) will not politicise this issue and act professionally," said Datuk Seri Chua.

Datuk Seri Chua however did not provide any details as to when the PSC will be formed or who will chair the committee.

The PSC comes in response to public outcry over the rare-earth plant, to be built by Australian mining company Lynas Corporation.

Concerns over radioactive waste from the plant sparked protests, the latest of which was a 5,000-strong rally last month.
