• NO IMMEDIATE ASSISTANCE: ELDERLY WOMAN KNOCKED DOWN BY SNATCH THIEF, IGNORED BY ALL BUT AN OLD MAN

    An elderly woman lay unconcious on the road after falling victim to snatch thieves on Tuesday and sadly, no one went to her aid.

    At least six people passed before help finally arrived.

    The 60-year-old woman, Tan Kin Chuan, was robbed and knocked down by two snatch thieves on a motorcycle in Air Itam, Penang yesterday.

    The disturbing scene was caught by CCTV cameras installed near the motorcycle parking area on the ground floor of the Padang Tembak flats.

    Based on the footages, the woman, who worked at a "kopitiam" lay unconcious as several people walked pass before an old man walking with an aid of a cane, finally called an ambulance.

    She was later taken to the Penang Hospital but succumbed to her injuries eight hours later, due to head injuries.

    Her body was claimed by her family members today and will be buried tomorrow.

    "I hope the police catch the snatch thief soon. My aunt was innocent. I hope there won't be a repeat of the incident," said victim's niece, Khoo Khim Khim.

    Meanwhile Deputy State CID Chief, Assistant Commissioner Mohd. Nasir Salleh who confirmed the incident said, a special team has been set up to nab the suspects in the case.

    He added the CCTV footage has also been sent to Bukit Aman Forensics Department in an effort to identify the suspects.

    Those with information on the case have been urged to contact the police.

    The case is being investigated under the Penal Code for murder.
