Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak went all out to capture the hearts and minds of youths at the launch of the 1Malaysia For Youth, or 1M4U ("I am for you") Programme today.
The Prime Minister also announced a RM100 million fund to encourage the younger generation to get involved in voluntarism.
Datuk Seri Najib and several cabinet ministers joined over 50,000 youths at the laucnh of iM4U programme at the KLCC esplanade.
He said the RM100 million will be used to spearhead youth programmes building spirit of volunteerism amongst the younger generation.
The fund is part of the Government's commitment to ensure todays youths can carry out volunteer programmes of their interest aimed at the betterment of the nation and society.
"We performed the flashmob as a starting point for a bigger wave among the youth nationwide. Our wave is not a wave of riot, street protest but a wave to build a better Malaysia through the spirit of volunteerism amongst youths," said the Prime Minister.
The fund named Dana Sukarelawan 1Malaysia (DRe1M), will be personally chaired by the premier with the IM4U board of trustees to oversee the smooth running of the youth volunteer programmes.
He added the administration and distribution of the allocation will be done online.
"We are not paying them but giving some needed material contribution. The most important thing in volunterism remains the spirit to contribute to society," said the premier.
Datuk Seri Najib also announced 2013 will be declared the Year of Volunteerism and a radio station of IM4U will be set up for the programme.
The premier was in a cheerful as he sang along the "I am for you" theme song with other cabinet ministers.
A number of events were held in conjuction with the launch.
Amongst them, a flash mob, performance shows and printing support campaign for IM4U.
