A police sargeant pleaded not guilty at the Kuantan sessions court today, for allegedly soliciting for bribe from a drug addict as an inducement for not taking action against him.
Ismail Che Ngah, 45, from the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department in Bera, Pahang, was accused of asking for 800 ringgit bribe from the drug dependent, who is also a contractor.
The offence was allegedly committed at Kilometre one, Simpang Kerayong on June 7, this year.
Judge, Fathiyah Idris, allowed bail of 2,000 ringgit with one surety pending remention of the case on August 30 .
He is charged under the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act 2009, which provides for a maximum 20 years jail, and fine five times the amount of bribe, or 10,000 ringgit, whichever is higher.
