An elderly deaf mute was burnt to death in a fire at a house in Jalan Jelutong, Penang early this morning.

The deceased, Lee Kean Meng, aged 60, believed to have been trapped in the house when the fire broke out at 3am.

The fire spread so fast that by the time firemen arrived at the scene shortly after being alerted of the incident the wooden house was already engulfed in flames.

The fire and rescue department is still investigating the cause of the blaze.
